Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (ファイアーエムブレム トラキア776 Faiā Emuburemu: Torakia Nana Nana Roku) is a tactical role-playing game developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, and the fifth main installment (6th overall) in the Fire Emblem series. It is the third and final Fire Emblem series title to be released on the Super Famicom.
A pre-written version of the game was originally released through the Nintendo Power service on August 28, 1999 as part of a special DX Pack. The game was later available through the Nintendo Power service as software that could be written on to an existing SF Memory Cassette on September 1, 1999. In May 21, 2000 the game was released as a standard Super Famicom game. On July 15, 2008, the game was released for Nintendo's Virtual Console for the Wii in Japan, followed by the version for Wii U Virtual Console almost five years later on July 10, 2013.
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 takes place between Chapters 5 and 6 of the previous game, Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. Several characters from Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu appear, such as Leif, Finn and Nanna. It takes place in the Thracian peninsula in southeastern Jugdral.
Gameplay

Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 uses the same skill system as Fire Emblem: Seisen no Keifu. It also introduced "fog of war" combat, also known as night combat, which obscured the majority of a map in pitch black. In fog of war chapters, torches or torch wands can be used to increase vision in around a certain spot, though it wears out gradually each turn. Like Fire Emblem: Monshou no Nazo, Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 has the "dismount" feature, including its similar characteristics, such as that Lance Knights and Axe Knights are forced to use swords when on foot and, that cavalry and airborne units are forced to dismount in interior missions.
This game is infamously known for including a fatigue system. Starting in chapter 8 of the game, whenever a unit participates in specific actions (such as attacking, unlocking chests/doors or using staves) the fatigue meter is steadily increased. When the meter surpasses a character's max health, they cannot participate in the next chapter, and must rest. This encourages the player to use their units sparingly, and attempt to utilize different combinations. Thracia 776 also introduced the "Rescue" command, which allows a character of a higher build (called "constitution" in later games) to pick up and carry another (provided they have a lower build). Once Rescued, that unit is safe from any damage, but the carrier's stats are cut in half. This mechanic allows players to save an important character they had unwittingly put in danger. The game also features the "Capture" command, by which playable characters can attempt to capture an enemy and seize their equipment. The reverse is also true, for enemy characters can also attempt to capture the player's units, and take their equipment.
Plot
Setting
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 takes place in the Republic of Manster, and the Kingdom of Thracia on the continent of Jugdral. It's events occur during Gran year 776 (in-between Chapters 5 and 6 in Seisen no Keifu). The evil Grannvale Empire has unified the continent under tyrannical rule for nearly 13 years, and a worldwide rebellion is slowly boiling.
Story
After the Fiana Freeblades (a group of fighters who protect the village of Fiana) leave to attack bandits, Raydrik (Duke of Manster) leads a group of soldiers from the Manster District, and takes over the village in search of Lord Leif, the son of deceased Prince Quan of Leonster and Ethlyn of Chalphy (and heir to the Kingdom of Leonster). Before his return to Manster, Raydrik kidnaps Nanna (a childhood friend of Leif and adopted daughter to Finn) and Mareeta (adopted daughter to Lady Eyvel) in hopes of gaining leverage power to capture Leif. When the Freeblades return, they reclaim Fiana from the soldiers, but are too late to confront Raydrik. Leif, devastated by the kidnapping of Nanna and Mareeta, decides to stop running from the empire, lead the group (in hopes of rescuing Nanna and Mareeta) and restore his lost Kingdom.
Reception
On release, Famitsu magazine scored the game a 35 out of 40.[1]
Sales
Owing to its distribution through the Nintendo Power system, and its release falling well into the Nintendo 64 era, Thracia 776 holds the distinction of being the worst-selling Fire Emblem game, selling only 106,108 units.
Legacy
Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 was featured in the Fire Emblem Trading Card Game. Some songs from the game were reused in the later Fire Emblem titles. The game's manga adaptation was featured in Monthly GFantasy.
Ten characters from Thracia 776 have been released as extra playable characters in Fire Emblem Awakening via SpotPass, marking the first and only appearance of content from Thracia 776 in an English-language work. There are also weapons named after characters from Thracia 776, such as Leif's Blade and Finn's Lance.
