Gautam Rajput

The Gautam Rajput belong to the Suryavanshi divisions of Rajputs, found in North India.

In 16th century Gautam Rajput family of Argal fought many battles for Sher Shah against Humayun. This brought upon them the vengeance of Humayun when he returned to India. Eventually the subsequent Mughal rulers caused utter destruction to their family properties.

They have originated in the region above or around the doab area of the upper Gangetic plain. In the modern times this area represents the territory around the border of the State of Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh. There are 42 large villages of Gautam Rajput at Raebareli District. After the 7th century, the Gautam Rajput clan also migrated outside the place of their origin, like the other Rajput clans.

Gautam Rajputs also live in areas like Azamgarh, Fatehpur, Muradabaad, Badau, Kanpur, Baliya, Ghazipur, Faizabad, Banda, Pratapgarh ,Farukabaad , Shahabaad , Gorakhpur , Banaras, Badaun, states in up, Aara, Chhapra, Darbhanga (Bihar), Chandrapura, Narayangarh (Mandsour), and Raipur (MP).

The Gautam claim descent from a Brahmin called Siringhi, who married a daughter of the Gaharwar Raja. For his dowry he obtained all the country between Allahabad to Haridwar. They are said to have originated in the region above or around the doab area of the upper Gangetic plain. In the modern times this area represents the territory around the border of the State of Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh. After 17th century A.D. Gautam Rajput clan also migrated outside the place of their origin, like the other Rajput clans. Gautam Rajputs are not widely known in Rajasthan.
