George Lyall, Sr

George Lyall (1779 – 1 September 1853)[1] was Chairman of the Honourable East India Company in 1830. He had a range of other business interests involving shipping. He served as a Conservative Member of Parliament (MP) for the City of London from 1833 to 1835 and again from 1841[2] to 1847.[3] He was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne in Durham, the eldest son of John Lyall and Jane Comyns. He died in London, Middlesex.

His daughter Mary married William Forsyth QC. One of his famous nephews was Alfred Comyn Lyall, the Indian civil servant (1835–1911).
