Casting
Nawazuddin Siddiqui was first selected to play the lead role in the film.[6][7] During the launch of the film, director Pushpendra Misra said that, "I wanted to make this movie only with him (Siddiqui) in the role."[8] Anurag Kashyap was also roped in to play a lazy police officer in the film.[4] Initially, few reports claimed that Huma Qureshi and Richa Chaddha would also play pivotal roles in the film.[9] Qureshi's presence in the film is not confirmed yet but Chaddha has confirmed her presence in the film. She will play a cameo role in the film.[10] Television actress Ragini Khanna will also be seen in a role opposite Siddiqui in the film.[11] Lyricist Swanand Kirkire is playing the role of Siddiqui's uncle in the film.[12] Singer-actor Ila Arun is also playing a role in the film.[13] The makers are also planning to include an item song in the film.[11] Amitabh Bachchan will also be seen in a special appearance in Ghoomketu.[14]
Filming
The film was mainly shot in Ahraura in Mirzapur district, near Varanasi.[15] In January 2014, Anurag Kashyap said in an interview that, "We have shot almost the entire film, except for few portions and the last few portions will be shot in Mumbai."[11]
