Gorantla is a village and a mandal in Anantapur district in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.[2]

Geography

Demographics
According to Indian census, 2011, the total population of the village is 24,586, of which males were 12,331 and females were 12,255. Households. Children under 6-years of age include 2,845. Average literacy rate is 62.79%.
Economy
Silk sarees
Gorantla region in Anantapur is famous for the silk and pattu sarees. The Sarees of the type Kanchi puram sarees and Dharmavaram sarees are the two major varieties produced here. The Sarees manufactured here are through Handmade and machine made (Power loom) and Its a major hub for Silk trade with end to end silk related industries situated in the region supporting a major portion of population.
Agriculture Gorantla receives very low rainfall due to its location in the rain shadow area of Indian Peninsula. Prominent crops include groundnut, sunflower, rice, cotton, maize, chillies, sesame, and sugarcane.
