The Green Party of New Mexico is the state party organization for New Mexico of the Green Party of the United States. It is listed as a minor qualified political party in New Mexico.[1]
New Mexico is the only state that requires the nominee of a qualified party to submit his or her own petition. Although the Green Party meets the 5-percent vote test for a party to be entitled to its own primary, and also meets the one-third of 1 percent registration membership test, its candidates cannot appear on New Mexico ballots because the 2008 Green Party presidential candidate, Cynthia McKinney, did not poll at least one-half of 1 percent of the vote.
