Guy Guzzone (born March 27, 1964) is an American politician who represents district 13 in the Maryland House of Delegates and is Deputy Majority Whip and chairman of the Howard County House Delegation and former chairman of the Howard County Council. On June 13, 2013 Guzzone announced his intention to run for Maryland State Senate on District 13.[1]

Background

Delegate Guzzone was born in Baltimore, Maryland, March 27, 1964. He attended Parkville High School in Baltimore County and graduated from the University of Maryland with two B.A.s, one in economics and the other in government & politics in 1986. He later earned a M.P.M. in public management in 1988.[2]

Public Service

Guy was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. He serves on the Appropriations Committee and is Chairman of its Public Safety subcommittee. As House Chairman of the Howard County Delegation, Guy has secured funding for many Howard County projects including the James and Anne Robinson Nature Center, Carroll Baldwin Hall, and Troy Hill and Blandair Parks. From 1998 to 2006, he served as a Howard County Councilman.

In the legislature

Guzzone has been a member of House of Delegates since January 10, 2007. He currently serves as Deputy Majority Whip, Chair of the Howard County Delegation, Chair of the Joint Audit Committee, and on the House Appropriations Committee and its Capital Budget and Education and Economic Development subcommittees, the Oversight Committee on Personnel, the Joint Committee on the Management of Public Funds, the House Emergency Medical Services Work Group, and the House Regional Revitalization Work Group.

Education

Guy graduated from Maryland public schools and attended the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned two bachelor's degrees in 1986 studying economics and government. As a master's degree candidate, he was awarded a MacArthur graduate fellowship. In 1988, he earned a Graduate Degree in Public Management.

Personal

Guy was born and raised in Maryland. His father Sam was a steelworker and his mother Rita was a homemaker and volunteer in the neighborhood schools. Guy's wife Pam works at Goddard Space Flight Center. They have three children - Guy "J" is a student at St. Mary's College of Maryland, Greer is a junior and Grant is a freshman at Hammond High School.
