While shooting for the film Raanjhanaa (2013), Abhay Deol was offered the lead role in the film, since it was not a "full-fledged role" in the former.[2] In January 2015, reports suggested that Diana Penty will be starring opposite Deol in the film.[3] In July 2015, it was reported that Ali Fazal will play an important role in the film.[4] In September 2015, it was revealed that Pakistani actress Momal Sheikh will be playing the second lead in the film.[5]

Filming began on 17 September 2015 in Amritsar.[6][7]

Release

The first look of the film was revealed through the Twitter handle of co-producer Krishika Lulla, on 30 September 2015.[8]
