Harps Food Stores, based in Springdale, Arkansas, is a chain of 80 supermarkets located across Arkansas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas.[1] The company sells both groceries and sporting goods in some larger stores. Harps Food Stores was founded in 1930[2] by Harvard and Floyd Harp. In 2001, Harps became employee-owned after buying company shares from the Harp family. The stores are supplied by Kansas City based Associated Wholesale Grocers.[3] The company is valued around $550 million, and employed 3,350 people in 2011.[4]
Expansion plans
In August, 2015, Harps announced plans to expand northward into Kansas. The 32,755 sq. ft. store announced for De Soto is expected to be completed by Fall 2016. The De Soto location will be the first Harps Food Store north of U.S. Route 66.[5]
