HiPipo Music Awards (HMA) celebrates and promotes music, musicians, and artistic excellence in Uganda and artists both within and outside Uganda.[1] Organized by HiPipo, an entertainment and digital media organization in Uganda, the first edition of HiPiPo Music awards (HMA) was held on 9 February 2013 at the Theater La Bonita in Kampala, Uganda.[2]

The second annual HiPipo Music Awards, themed "The Fans Decide," took place on 14 October 2013 and culminated with a gala night at Wonder World (formerly Didi's World) auditorium in Kansanga.[3] This event was co-sponsored by MTN, Huawei Technologies Uganda, Red Pepper, Pepsi and Carlsberg. [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] The third HiPipo Music Awards was planned for 7 February 2015.

Eligibility

To be considered, an artist must have released music content within 12 months prior to October of any year. Also, an artist or group must have a Ugandan nationality. An exception is made for collaborative acts of Ugandan artists with an international artist(s), and in certain specialized cases after vetting by Davis Bracken.

Nomination

Each category has five or six nominees.[9] The nominees come from different nominating stakeholders including musicians, video/audio producers, songwriters, media personalities (radio, TV, and print), and the general public.[10]

Voting

Once nominations are complete, the public votes via text (SMS) and Facebook through the official HiPipo Music Awards (HMA) platform.
