Hilary Farr is an international home designer and co-host of the Love It or List It television show, along with David Visentin.[1] The show is broadcast on HGTV and W Network. In Spain, the show is broadcast with dual sound-track (Spanish voices-over / English) on Divinity.

Early life

Farr was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and grew up in London, England, UK. She was initially interested in pursuing theatre. Her first dabbling with interior design came from helping her mother hunt down unexpected pieces of art and other accessories to decorate her childhood home. She landed part-time jobs in Los Angeles, when she first started renovating homes as well as various film and television show sets. Farr previously bought various properties and renovated them.[2] Farr has one son.[3] Acting under the name Hilary Labow, Farr made small appearances in movies such as Layout for 5 Models (1972), Sex Farm (1973), Never Mind the Quality, Feel the Width (1973), Legend of the Werewolf (1975), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), City on Fire (1979) and The Return (1980).[4]

Professional background

Farr has designed properties in various countries throughout the world, including Australia and United Kingdom, as well as California and New York in the United States. Currently she is renovating homes for various customers in Toronto. Farr serves as one of two hosts, along with David Visentin, on the Canadian television show Love It or List It, and serves as president of Hilary Farr's Designs, established in Toronto and in New York.

Farr has renovated homes for notable celebrities, including Jenna Elfman's home and Jennifer Hudson's loft in Chicago.

Guest appearances

When Farr first returned to Toronto, she was announced as one of the hosts of Love It or List It by the W Network and Corus Entertainment, Farr also served as a judge on W Network's Search for the Next W Expert 2010. In 2011, she made numerous guest appearances at the Canadian International Interior Design Show, hosted in the cities of Toronto, Edmonton and Vancouver. She also made frequent guest appearances on The Marilyn Denis Show and is also a regular contributor to the Huffington Post.[5]

In June 2014, Farr visited Orland Park and Chicago, Illinois, USA as a guest and design expert along with CNN and USA Today pundit and journalist Amy Tara Koch at the Art Van Furniture convention.[6][7]

Love It or List It

In an interview with Notable Media, Farr explains that her auditions for Love It or List It came after what Farr describes as a "horrible, horrible divorce" from her ex-husband. After the divorce, Farr experienced feelings of anger, bitterness and total resentment towards her ex-husband. It was then, on the advice from a friend, that Farr decided to audition for the show in order to channel away her negative emotions.[8] Farr was signed by Corus Entertainment and Big Coat Productions as co-host along with David Visentin in 2008.
