Iconic Tower is a proposed 734-metre, 130 story mega-tall skyscraper planned in Purbachal New Town, Bangladesh, at a preliminary cost of US$1.27 billion.[3] The project will be the centerpiece of development of Central Business District, also known as Icon City, which will also include several high-rise commercial towers surrounding the tower. If completed as planned, the Iconic Tower will become the third tallest building in the world, only behind Jeddah Tower and Burj Khalifa. The project is similar to Downtown Dubai, and the purpose of the project is to establish Dhaka as the hub of commerce in South Asia. An International Tender will float for the construction in May 10, 2016. [4] Reception of the proposal has been highly favorable; it has received high praise from critics as a culturally significant icon that will symbolize the nation's emergence as economic power 21st century.

Overview

The building was first proposed by United States based real-estate company KPC Group, to a height of 734 metres (2,408 ft). The 130-story skyscraper was designed to be the third tallest in the world behind Jeddah Tower in Jeddah and Burj Khalifa in Dubai. About 100 acres plot was proposed by the company, which was later scaled down to 60 acres.[5] In April 2016, Bangladesh Government announced an auction for the construction of the tower, which is set to be held in 10 May 2016. The project is divided into three phases, First phase includes the construction of the Iconic Tower. During second phase, several high-rise commercial towers will be built surrounding Iconic Tower. Third Phase will include the construction of artificial lake, mega-shopping mall, 5-star international hotel chain, and a state-of-art sports facility 70,000 seat capacity Purbachal International Cricket Arena. The development will become a new district of Dhaka, and the largest business district of South Asia. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Bureau of Research, Testing, and Consultation Division alongside RAJUK will be the main consultant of the project.[6]
