Indian Institute of Information Technology, Guwahati (IIIT G) is one of the Indian Institutes of Information Technology located in Guwahati, Assam. It was set up by the Government of India in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.[3]

History

On 18 March 2013, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India introduced a bill in the Parliament to establish 20 new Indian Institute of Information Technology's in different parts of the Country. As per the bill, MHRD will establish the 20 new IIITs under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode partnering with respective state governments and industry partners.[4] The new IIITs are envisaged to be Institutes of National Importance. Aimed at generating highly competent manpower of global standards for the Information Technology Industry, the institutes are also expected to act as major catalyst to develop new knowledge in the field of Information Technology.

Foundation

IIIT Guwahati was set up in 2013. The foundation stone for campus of IIIT Guwahati was unveiled in the presence of Hon'ble Prime Minister , Shri Narendra Modi .[5]

Academics

Programs

IIITG offers B.Tech degree in computer science and engineering and electronics and communication engineering.[6] Admission to all these programs are through JEE-MAIN.

From 2015 onwards students enrolled in the research Doctoral Programme (awarding a Ph.D) after either completing a B.Tech degree or an M.Tech one.[7]

Yuvaanβ, is the annual cultural extravaganza of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Guwahati. Beta edition of Yuvaanβ 2.0 to be held in February, 2016.
