William Jack Malden (14 May 1899 – 23 November 1963) was an English cricketer. Malden was a right-handed batsman. He was born at Ticehurst, Sussex.
Malden was educated at Haileybury and Imperial Service College, where he played cricket for the college team from 1914–17.[1] His first-class debut for Sussex came against Leicestershire in the 1920 County Championship,[2] scoring a duck in his only innings of the match.[3] He made nine further first-class appearances in that season,[2] scoring 204 runs in his debut season at an average of 14.57 and a high score of 46.[4] In the following season, Malden played his first first-class match of the season for Cambridge University (where he also undertook his studies) against the British Army,[2] as well as making eleven appearances for Sussex, scoring 353 runs in the season at an average of 19.61.[4] He scored what would be his only first-class century in this season for Sussex against Warwickshire in the County Championship.[5] He made two further appearances for Sussex in the 1922 County Championship against Gloucestershire and Worcestershire,[2] after which he made no further appearances for the county.
He died at Newbury, Berkshire on 23 November 1963. His father Ernest Malden also played first-class cricket.
