Jamareo Artis (born October 3, 1989) is an American bass guitarist. He is known for his work as bass guitarist for pop star Bruno Mars and winning P. Diddy's MTV Making His Band in 2009,[1] he appears in Bruno Mars music video "Locked Out of Heaven". Artis has also worked with many others from R&B Artist Monica to playwright JD Lawrence, he has established himself as a well-rounded and respected bass guitarist. In 2014, Jamareo recorded with Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars on the biggest song of the 2010s "Uptown Funk" which lasted at No. 1 on the Hot 100 for 14 weeks. Artis also appears in the music video for "Uptown Funk", "Gorilla", and "Treasure" with Bruno Mars

Artis has performed many television shows such as Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show, The Grammy Awards,[2] Saturday Night Live, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show,[3] MTV Video Music Awards, Today Show, X Factor, The Ellen Degeneres Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, David Letterman, American Idol, MTV European Music Awards, Echo Awards, X Factor UK, and several others.

His influences are James Jamerson, Pino Palladino, Willie Weeks, Jaco Pastorius, Nathan Watts, and Marcus Miller, all of which his bass style consist heavily of.[4] He is known for playing Fender Bass Guitars with Flatwounds and Stainless Steel DR Strings, using Sennheiser wireless systems, EBS Pedals (DPhaser and OctoBass), and Ampeg or Ashdown Amplifiers.[5] More recently, he told Bass Player Magazine his rig was two Mesa Boogie M9 Carbine heads with two Mesa Boogie LTD 8x10 Powerhouse cabinets [6]

Early life

Artis began playing the bass at the age of 10.[7] He graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in 2007.[8]
