Jamie Edge (born 9 September 1993) is an English footballer playing for Weston-super-Mare AFC after signing from Cirencester Town. He is a former Arsenal and West Bromwich Albion footballer.
Club career
Born in Gloucester, Edge began his career with Cheltenham Town. In July 2009, Edge signed for Arsenal.[1] It was reported that Arsenal had paid a six figure sum for the then 15-year-old Edge,[2] with Cheltenham Town's centre of excellence co-ordinator Ken Oram saying of Edge, "Both Manchester United and Arsenal did their homework on him and then looked after him when he went for trials."[2]
Edge became a regular in Steve Bould's Arsenal under 18 side,[3] and signed professional terms with Arsenal shortly after turning 17.[3] Arsenal's official website described Edge as "a powerful midfielder with the ability to break up play in the middle of the park and also to push forward and create goals".
Edge played once for the Arsenal reserve team,[3] before joining West Bromwich Albion in August 2011.[4] Then West Bromwich Albion technical director Dan Ashworth, now the FA's Director of Elite Development, said of Edge, "Arsenal let us have a look at Jamie for a three-week period during which he played in two reserve games and a couple of youth team games. He impressed us with his ability on the ball, his discipline and willingness to improve.",[5]
Edge joined the Nike Football Academy in the summer of 2012 and played 43 times throughout the 2012–13 season.[6]
On 12 August 2013, Gloucester City pulled off a significant transfer coup by signing Edge.[7] At the time, Gloucester City manager David Mehew said of Edge, "I knew about him at the start of the summer and didn't really think we would have a chance of bringing him, in to be honest. I am sure that the scouts will be flocking to come and watch him play".[7] He left Gloucester in October 2013 to join Cirencester Town.[8] On 18 December 2013, Edge signed for Hereford United.
After leaving Hereford United at the end of the 2013-2014 season, Edge returned to Cirencester Town. on 31 October 2014, he sighed for Conference South side Weston-super-Mare AFC [9]
