Jasmin Handanović (born 28 January 1978 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Maribor in the Slovenian PrvaLiga.

Club career

In July 2010 he was signed by Empoli, replacing Davide Bassi as the new first choice. However, he was then replaced by Alberto Pelagotti. In 2011 he signed for Maribor.[1]

On 5 November 2014, in a UEFA Champions League group match against Chelsea at the Stadion Ljudski vrt, he saved an 85th-minute penalty from Eden Hazard to ensure a 11 draw.[2]

International career

He made his full international debut on 19 November 2008, in a 34 friendly defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in Maribor. On his next international cap on 28 March 2009, he kept a clean sheet in a goalless World Cup qualifier against the Czech Republic.[3] Handanović was one of three Slovene goalkeepers chosen to go to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but did not feature in any matches. He played his final game for the national team in 2012 against Switzerland. Since that match he was only featured as a reserve.

Personal life

Handanović is of Bosniak descent. His younger cousin, Samir Handanović, currently plays for Internazionale.
