This season covers Part 4 of the manga, titled Diamond Is Unbreakable. Set in 1999, 11 years after the events of Stardust Crusaders, Jotaro Kujo tracks down Josuke Higashikata, the illegitimate son of Joseph Joestar, to help him in seeking out a magical bow and arrow that grants people Stand powers. Along the way, Josuke and his friends discover that a Stand-using serial killer is on the loose in their hometown of Morioh and only they can stop him.

The anime adaptation of Diamond Is Unbreakable was announced at the end of "The Last Crusaders" event for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders anime in Tokyo on October 24, 2015;[4] a teaser trailer was uploaded to Warner Bros. Japan's YouTube channel shortly after.[5] The series is being directed by Naokatsu Tsuda, with the screenplay by Yasuko Kobayashi, character designs by Terumi Nishii, and the score composed once again by Yugo Kanno. Diamond Is Unbreakable began airing in Japan from April 1, 2016 and is being simulcast by Crunchyroll.[3] The series' opening theme is "Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town" performed by The DU (Jun Shirota, Daisuke Wada, and Jeity),[6][7] while the ending theme is the 1996 single "I Want You" by Australian pop group Savage Garden.[8] An original video animation titled Thus Spoke Rohan Kishibe will be available to those who purchase every Blu-ray disc release of the series.[2][9][1]

In April 1999, eleven years after his battle against Dio, Jotaro Kujo travels to Morioh City to look for a boy named Josuke Higashikata. After first running into a timid boy named Koichi Hirose, Jotaro comes across Josuke as he fights with some upperclassmen who injured a turtle and insulted his hairstyle, discovering that he possesses a Stand that has the power to heal wounds. Jotaro then introduces himself, revealing that Josuke is the illegitimate son of his grandfather, Joseph Joestar. When Jotaro inadvertently insults his hairstyle, Josuke brings out his Stand, Crazy Diamond,[lower-alpha 3] against Jotaro, who narrowly avoids heavy damage thanks to his Star Platinum's ability to temporarily stop time. Afterwards, Jotaro informs Josuke about a dangerous Stand user named Anjuro "Angelo" Katagiri is hiding out in town, warning him to stay away from him. Following their first day of school, Josuke and Koichi comes across a burglar taking a convenience store clerk hostage, with Josuke once again getting riled up after his hair is insulted. After stopping the burglar by using Crazy Diamond's ability to trap his own knife inside his body, Josuke discovers the burglar was being possessed by Angelo's Stand, who targets Josuke's family the next day.

Angelo sends his Stand, Aqua Necklace, inside of Josuke's mother, Tomoko, but Josuke manages to trap it inside a bottle before it can possess her. Remembering that Josuke's grandfather, Ryohei, was the police officer who put him in jail, Angelo disguises Aqua Necklace as brandy in order to trick Ryohei into setting it free, getting killed in the process. Despite using Crazy Diamond to heal Ryohei's wounds, Josuke sadly discovers that his power cannot bring people back from the dead. A few days later, Angelo takes advantage of the rain to send Aqua Necklace inside Josuke's house, spreading around steam and puddles that it can freely move around in. Using a humidifier, Aqua Necklace manages to get inside Josuke's mouth, but Josuke manages to trap it in a rubber glove he had swallowed beforehand. Finding Angelo's real body, Josuke takes his revenge by trapping him inside a stone for the rest of his life.

Angelo reveals to Josuke and Jotaro that a man in a school uniform gave him his Stand ability by shooting him with a peculiar bow and arrow, mentioning Dio's name. He then attempts to attack a child with Aqua Necklace, but once again incurs Josuke's wrath and is shattered and rehealed into a different shape. Believing the bow and arrow is what gave Dio his Stand years ago, Jotaro decides to stay in Morioh City to investigate. The next day, while walking home with Josuke, Koichi checks out a supposedly abandoned house but is trapped by its resident, Okuyasu Nijimura, before being shot with an arrow by his older brother, Keicho. Before Josuke can rush over to heal Koichi, Okuyasu brings out his Stand, The Hand, which has the ability to erase things, including space, and instantly close the missing gap. However, Josuke takes advantage of this by having Okuyasu inadvertently launch some potted plants at himself. With Okuyasu knocked out, Josuke heads inside the house to rescue Koichi from Keicho.

Finding Keicho's Bad Company to be an army of toy soldiers complete with tanks and helicopters, Josuke struggles to escape with Koichi, who he discovers has become a Stand user due to the arrow's effect. Pressured by Keicho into summoning his Stand in order to determine its potential, Koichi brings out a seemingly useless egg. Worried that the bow and arrow could be used to cause more damage, Josuke and Koichi decide to search for it in order to destroy it. Upon checking the attic, the two find not only the bow and arrow, but a mutated creature revealed to be Okuyasu and Keicho's father. Keicho reveals he had been using the arrow to search for a Stand user capable of killing his father after Dio's death caused a flesh bud he had implanted in him to transform him into an immortal monster. Noticing that the father had been obsessed with a box, Josuke uses Crazy Diamond's power to restore a family photo that he had been treasuring. Just as Josuke offers to help Keicho and Okuyasu find a way to cure their father in exchange for the bow and arrow, an electrical Stand named Red Hot Chili Pepper[lower-alpha 5] suddenly appears, capturing the bow and arrow before killing Keicho by dragging him through an electrical outlet. As Jotaro receives a warning from Red Hot Chili Pepper's user, Okuyasu decides to become friends with Josuke and go to school with him.

After accidentally running over a cat that was trapped in a bag in the middle of the road, Koichi is blackmailed by the cat's alleged owner, Tamami Kobayashi, who uses his Stand, The Lock, to place a shackle on him that grows heavier with guilt. When Okuyasu tries to get Kobayashi to drop Koichi's debt, he injures himself to make Okuyasu feel guilt, placing a shackle on him as well. Luckily, Josuke discovers the cat was a fake and heals Kobayashi's injury, removing the shackles from both Koichi and Okuyasu. Wanting payback, Kobayashi shows up at Koichi's house and manages to place shackles on his mother and sister. Koichi's anger towards Kobayashi causes his egg to hatch into the Stand Echoes. Although at first it seems that Echoes has little strength in its punches, it manages to imprint a sound effect on Kobayashi's body, causing him to constantly hear those sounds resonating through his body. Refusing to relinquish, Kobayashi stabs himself and implicates Koichi in order to increase the weight on his family's shackles and drive his mother to suicide. However, Koichi manages to use Echoes' ability to convince his mother to believe his innocence and remove both shackles, after which Kobayashi resigns himself to become Koichi's underling.
