John Kerins (Gaelic footballer)
John Kerins (19 July 1962 - 21 August 2001) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a goalkeeper for the Cork senior team.[1][2]
Born in Cork, Kerins first excelled at Gaelic football during his schooling at Coláiste Chríost Rí. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the Cork minor team before later joining the under-21 side. He made his senior debut during the 1983–84 league. Kerins later became a regular member of the starting fifteen and won two All-Ireland medals, six Munster medals and one National Football League medal. He was an All-Ireland runner-up on three occasions.
Kerins was a member of the Munster inter-provincial team on a number of occasions but never won a Railway Cup medal. At club level he was a one-time All-Ireland medallist with St. Finbarr's. In addition to this Kerins also won one Munster medal and one championship medal.
Throughout his career Kerins made 35 championship appearances. He retired from inter-county football following the conclusion of the 1994 championship.
In retirement from playing Kerins became involved in team management and coaching. He served as coach of the St. Finbarr's minor and senior teams, guiding the former to championship success.
