Jon Steel (born 14 March 1980 in Middlesbrough) is an English born Scottish former rugby league footballer who played in Super League for Hull Kingston Rovers and in the Championship for Featherstone Rovers. He is a former rugby union player who represented his country at youth level before switching codes in 2005. Following Hull KR's promotion, Steel was expected to play a big part in their first Super League season but was unfortunate to suffer a badly broken leg after only a handful of games and was ruled out for most of the year as a result.
Steele formerly played for Scotland in rugby union. Signed in 2005 from the Borders RU club, 'Steely' as he was known made a real impact scoring 5 tries away from home against London Skolars.
He was named in the Scotland training squad for the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.[2]
