During the following years, he had brief spells with several clubs around South America including Rosario Central of the Argentine Primera, O'Higgins in the Chilean league, Atlético Mineiro from the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A and Oriente Petrolero for the second time around. He would also played for Bolivian side Bolívar in three different occasions.
In 2009, Castillo joined Hong Kong First Division team South China on trial. In January 2010 he signed a one-year contract with hometown club Blooming, scoring 26 goals scored in 44 games. In December 2010 Tecos decided to include him back in the first team roster and Castillo returned to Mexico, but only after six appearances he was loaned out to Bolívar once again.
