Jurong Lake District
Jurong Lake District is a district of Singapore. It consists of two zones, namely Jurong Gateway and Lakeside. It is 360 hectares in size and served by two major expressways and three MRT stations.
Remaking Our Heartland
On January 22, 2011, the Government of Singapore announces plans of transforming the Jurong Lake District.[1]
The plans include:
- Waterfront hotels, parks and playgrounds in Lakeside (comprising 220 hectares of land and 70 hectares of water body)
- JCube, a new shopping mall with about 26,000 square metres of commercial space, five levels of retail space and an Olympic-size ice-skating rink which will be ready by 2012.
- An integrated healthcare hub comprising the 700-bed Ng Teng Fong Hospital and the 286-bed Jurong Community Hospital, which will be ready in 2014 and 2015 respectively.
- A 24km network of park connectors from Bukit Batok to Jurong East MRT Station.
- Two new parks near the Jurong East MRT station and Toh Guan.
- Two new public housing sites, where about 1,200 new flats will be rolled out.
- Upgrading programmes which include Home Improvement Programme (HIP), Lift Upgrading Programme (LUP) and Neighbourhood Renewal Programme (NRP).
