Development
Filmmaker Vimal was introduced to Dubai-based Malayali entrepreneur K.P. Venu,by his friends Dr. T. C. Satish and Kuttu Sivanandan in late 2015. Both Vimal and Venu had apparently finished reading a book about Karnan, a legendary character from the Indian mythological epic Mahabharatha. Venu agreed to produce the film, and the film was officially launched in January 2016, in a function held in Dubai.[6]
Production
The filming is scheduled to begin in September, 2016, with the makers aiming for a late-2017 release.[7] Produced on a budget of ₹100 crore (US$15 million), the film along with its dubbed versions in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi is touted to release in more than 4,000 screens worldwide, making it the biggest release ever for a Malayalam film.
The film is being digitally story-boarded. The digital storyboard will release as an animated film in DVD, much after the film's theatrical release.[8]
