KY 2866 originates at a junction with KY 1790 southeast of Shelbyville in rural sections of Shelby County. It travels southeast for 3.820 miles (6.148 km) passing though open fields and wooded areas with occasional houses along the way. It ends at a junction with KY 714 in southeastern Shelby County. It is known as Woodlawn Road for its entirety.
