Kenya Airways destinations
Kenya Airways was established by the Government of Kenya on 22 January 1977, following the collapse of the East African Union and the consequent folding of East African Airways.[1] It first flew on 4 February 1977 servicing the London–Nairobi route, using a Boeing 707–321 leased from British Midland Airways.[1][2] A year later, the airline's network comprised five domestic and 16 international destinations.[3] At July 1980 , Addis Ababa, Athens, Bombay, Cairo, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Jeddah, Kampala, Karachi, Khartoum, London, Lusaka, Mauritius, Mogadishu, Rome, Salisbury, Seychelles, Zurich made up the list of international destinations, whereas four Kenyan cities (Kisumu, Malindi, Mombasa and Mumias) were also served.[4]
As at March 2014 , the carrier served 51 passenger destinations non-stop. At this time, the route network included 57 cities in Africa —five of them in Kenya—, five in Asia, three in Europe (two in the Schengen Area) and one in the Middle East,[5] following the addition of Abu Dhabi to the route network in July 2013 ,[6][7][nb 1] precedeed by Eldoret and Kilimanjaro in early July 2012 ,[9] and the suspension of flights to both Muscat and Rome in June the same year,[10] and to N'Djamena in December.[11] Kenya Airways had previously started services to Delhi in May 2012 ,[12] and resumed[nb 2] services to Jeddah in October 2011 .[14] In June 2014 , Abuja became the second Nigerian point in the carrier's list of destinations, after Lagos.[15][16] Also that month, Kenya Airways deployed its first ever Boeing 787 Dreamliner on the Nairobi–Paris route, replacing the Boeing 767 on this sector.[17][18] Delhi was terminated in November 2014 .[19]
