Kuala Belait, Belait
Kuala Belait is a mukim of Brunei and is also the westernmost mukim in the Belait District and in Brunei. It is bounded by the South China Sea to the north, Mukim Seria to the east, Kuala Balai to the south-east and Sarawak (Malaysia) to the south and west.
Areas and Divisions
Mukim Kuala Belait includes these following areas:
- the municipality of Kuala Belait. This consists of the following villages:
- Kampong Pekan Belait - the heart of Kuala Belait town
- Kampong Melayu Asli - the Kuala Belait mosque is located in this Kampong
- Kampong Melayu Baru
- Kampong China - the Chinese school Chung Hwa Middle School is located here
- Kampong Temenggong
- Kampong Lubok Palam
- Kampong Sungai Duhon - the commercial port of Kuala Belait is located here.
- the suburb of Sungai Pandan. This consist of the following villages:
- Kampong Pandan - this is the largest kampong immediately to the east of the municipality of Kuala Belait.
- Perumahan Negara Kampung Pandan
- the suburb of Mumong. The sports complex for the Seria-Kuala Belait area is located here. This consist of the following villages:
- Kampong Mumong (Mumong Utara)
- Kampong Mumong Selatan
- Kampong Perpindahan Mumong
- the west bank of the Belait River which consists of the following villages:
- Kampong Rasau - a small village on the west back of the Belait River south of Kampong Sungai Teraban
- Kampong BSP - the Brunei Shell Petroleum portion of Rasau
- Kampong Sungai Teraban - located just across the Belait River from Kuala Belait
- Kampong Sungai Satu to Kampong Sungai Tujoh, including Kampong Sungai Tiga
- on the road to Kuala Balai:
- Kampong Jalan Kuala Balai - not to be confused with the village of Kuala Balai in the mukim of Kuala Balai.
Other Locations
Other locations within the mukim include:
- Sungai Tujoh - the location of the customs/immigration point at the border with Sarawak, Malaysia
- Rasau - the gas field operated by Brunei Shell Petroleum
- The mouth of the Belait River, the longest river in Brunei
- Istana Mangellela, the residence of Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in Kuala Belait
