La Plaza Mall is a regional shopping mall located in McAllen, Texas, at the intersection of Interstate 2 (Expressway 83) and 10th Street. It has 1,215,000 square feet (112,900 m2) of gross leasable area.[2] The mall is one of the highest-grossing operated by Simon, and the largest mall in south Texas.[3]

An original tenant of the mall was a Woolworth dime store, the second in McAllen, which closed in 1997.[4] 1998 expansion brought Dillard's as an additional anchor.[5] Another original tenant was a Jones & Jones department store, which was sold to Foley's in 2000[6] and again to Macy's in 2006. In November 2015, the Sears anchor store closed its doors for good. The now defunct part of the mall is set to be demolished in a couple of months for the new remodeling project set to have started since September 2015. In February 2016 Simon announced that the project was on progress and the mall was going to get a makeover to a newer and modern feel. The mall is se to add two three-stories high parking building on the east and west side of the mall. Add new anchors, restaurants, and stores. Rumors are going around, that a movie theater, and bowling alley, are also part of the project. The project/remodeling is set to be finished by Fall 2017.
