Southridge Mall is a regional shopping mall located in the Milwaukee County suburbs of Greendale and Greenfield, Wisconsin. At 1.2 million square feet, it is the largest mall in the state (by square footage).[1] The mall is anchored by JCPenney, Macy's, Sears, Boston Store and Kohl's.

History

Southridge opened in 1970 as the southern sister mall to Northridge Mall. Both malls were located on 76th Street, close to major east-west artery roads. Both were developed by future US Senator Herb Kohl and Taubman Centers, Inc..

Southridge Mall

In 1988 the Kohl family sold their retail interests in Southridge and the mall was acquired by Western Development Corporation, a publicly traded real estate investment company specializing in regional malls, with Northridge eventually closing due to demographic changes in its area. Southridge is now part of the Simon Property Group.

This is the only mall in the Milwaukee area to have five anchor department stores. Macy's occupies 150,000 sq.ft. of the former Gimbels/Younkers site. Steve & Barry's, along with Linens 'n Things filled the space in 2004, but both closed in 2007 due to the bankruptcy of their parent companies.
