The Fierza Reservoir (Albanian: Liqeni i Fierzës) is a reservoir in Albania and Kosovo.[lower-alpha 1] The Drin River and parts of the White Drin and Black Drin also runs through the reservoir. The size of the lake is 73 km², of which 2.46 km² belong to Kosovo. It is 70 km long and has a depth of 128 m. In the Albanian side of the lake there are many canyons and some small islands. The dam is 167m tall.[1] In 2014, the lake was declared a Regional Nature Park by the Kukes County Council.[2]

The reservoir was formed as a result of the construction of the Fierza Hydroelectric Power Station in 1978 by the Albanian government.

Notes:

  1. 1 2 Kosovo is the subject of a territorial dispute between the Republic of Kosovo and the Republic of Serbia. The Republic of Kosovo unilaterally declared independence on 17 February 2008, but Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory. The two governments began to normalise relations in 2013, as part of the Brussels Agreement. Kosovo has been recognised as an independent state by 108 out of 193 United Nations member states.
