Leander is an unincorporated community in Johnson County, Kentucky, United States. It is part of the 41222 ZIP Code Tabulation Area, which includes the nearby community of Hager Hill. Leander is located at an elevation of 669 feet.[1] Leander Kentucky is named after Mr. Leander Rice. He lived the life of a common frontiersman in the late 1700's through the early 1800's. During this period, if you were the first to stake off a piece of property, you owned it! Leander walked approximately 4000 acres through the hills of eastern Kentucky, staking it off along the way. After which he donated properties to his family, friends, as well as properties for churches and schools. There are many interesting stories and legends surrounding his life, as is the case of many men of the time. Another small community within Leander Kentucky named Riceville is also named in tribute to Leander. His descendants still own various properties within the community of Leander Kentucky.
