Lewis Merryn Ochoa (born 24 June 1991) is an English footballer, who plays as a midfielder for Southern League Division One Central club Hanwell Town. He began his career in the Football League with Brentford, for whom he made one professional appearance, before dropping into non-league football upon his release in 2009.

Career

Brentford

Ochoa began his career in the youth system at Brentford and signed a professional contract in the summer of 2008. Under manager Andy Scott, Ochoa was awarded the number 25 shirt and received his maiden call into the first team squad for a League Cup first round match versus Swansea City on 12 August 2008.[2] He remained on the bench for the 2-0 defeat. Ochoa made his professional debut in a Football League Trophy first round shootout win over Yeovil Town on 2 September 2008, coming on as a substitute in the 83rd minute for Frankie Artus.[3] Ochoa was called into a Brentford league squad for the first time for a League Two match versus Wycombe Wanderers on 13 September[4] and was called up again for a league match versus Morecambe on 21 October.[5] Ochoa's final involvement with the first team came in a FA Cup second round match versus Barrow on 28 November, remaining on the bench for a shock 2-1 defeat.[6] On 24 March 2009, Ochoa made an appearance for the Wycombe Wanderers on trial in their 1–1 youth team draw with Stevenage Borough,[7] though he failed to win a contract. Ochoa was released at the end of the 2008/09 season, after making just one senior appearance for the Bees.[8]

Maidenhead United

Ochoa signed for Conference South club Maidenhead United in August 2009,[9] linking up with former Brentford youth teammate Ivailo Dimitrov. Manager Johnson Hippolyte described Ochoa as a player with "great potential".[10] Ochoa scored his first goal for the club in a 4-2 Berks & Bucks Senior Cup semi-final win over Thatcham Town on 16 February 2010.[11] Ochoa appeared in the final against Wycombe Wanderers Reserves, helping the Magpies to a 3-2 victory.[12] Ochoa made 19 appearances and scored one goal during his only season with the club.[13]

Hendon (dual-registration)

After failing to win a regular place in the Maidenhead United team, Ochoa joined Isthmian League Premier Division side Hendon on a dual-registration deal on 8 October 2009.[14] He made his debut two days later in a 2-1 FA Cup third qualifying round win over Ashford Town (Middlesex).[15] He made six appearances and scored two goals for the club.[16]

Bedfont Town

Early in the 2010/11 season, Ochoa had a stint at Southern League Division One Central side Bedfont Town.

Burnham

In late 2010, Ochoa signed for Southern League Division One Central side Burnham.

AFC Hayes

Ochoa moved across the Southern League Division One Central to sign for AFC Hayes early in the 2011/12 season. He made his league debut in a 4-1 win over Rugby Town on 29 October 2011.[17]

Hanwell Town

Ochoa joined Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Hanwell Town in the summer of 2012. In the 2012/13 season he made 27 appearances and scored three goals for the Geordies.[13] In his second season with the club, he was part of the side which was crowned Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division champions. He made 7 appearances and scored one goal.[18]
