Lina Loh Woon Lee (simplified Chinese: 罗文丽; traditional Chinese: 羅文麗; pinyin: Lúo Wén Lì; born 4 June 1949), also by her married name Lina Chiam, is a Singaporean politician from the Singapore People's Party (SPP). She was a Non-constituency Member of Parliament (NCMP) of the 12th Parliament of Singapore. She is the wife of Singaporean opposition politician Chiam See Tong.

Political career

Lina Chiam (Lina Loh), who is better known in Singapore as the wife of Chiam See Tong, first started her political career after her husband decided to forgo Potong Pasir Single Member Constituency (Potong Pasir SMC) which he had been representing for 27 years to contest in the Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency (Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC) in the Singaporean general election, 2011. She filled in the SPP slot in Potong Pasir SMC[1] and contested against the People's Action Party's Sitoh Yih Pin for the Potong Pasir Member of Parliament (MP) position. Lina Chiam campaigned hard to win the vote of Potong Pasir residents.[2] It was the closest fight of the 2011 election with Lina Chiam losing only by mere 114 votes getting 49.64% of the votes.[3] However, by virtue of being the best loser in an election whereby less than 9 non-ruling party MPs were elected, she qualified to make it to the 12th Parliament of Singapore as an NCMP. Lina Chiam took up the NCMP appointment on 12 May 2011.[4]

In the 2015 General Elections, she contested in Potong Pasir SMC again but lost to PAP's Sitoh Yih Pin by a larger margin. She garnered 33.59% of the votes against Mr Sitoh's 66.41%. The number of elected opposition MPs in the election was 6 and as such, 3 opposition candidates qualified to be NCMPs in the 13th parliament. As SPP's result in Potong Pasir SMC was poorer than that of the losing opposition candidates in Punggol East SMC, Fengshan SMC and East Coast GRC, the election did not see Lina Chiam's return to parliament as a NCMP.
