List of Indian journalists
List of Indian journalists includes all journalists from India who write in one of many official languages of the nation. The journalists in the list have been recognised in one of the following ways:
- Indian journalists who have made influential people lists: Ramnath Goenka made India Today's list of 100 most influential people in modern India. WAN-IFRA has profiled Ramnath Goenka, V. K. Hamzah, Kalki Krishnamurthy, and Bal Thackeray.
- International award winners from India: Arun Shourie is the only Indian journalist listed as a World Press Freedom hero.[1] Winners of the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature and Creative Communication Arts include Amitabha Chowdhury (1961), Boobli George Verghese (1975), Gour Kishore Ghosh (1981), Arun Shourie (1982), R. K. Laxman (1984), Palagummi Sainath (2007).
- Journalists from India who were confirmed killed, murdered or assassinated while working or as a result of their journalism. Their status is typically confirmed by the Committee to Protect Journalists, Reporters Without Borders, International Federation of Journalists and International Press Institute.
- Subjective lists of important Indian journalists: One article lists Barkha Dutt, Rajdeep Sardesai, Vikram Chandra (NDTV), Shireen Bhan, and Udayan Mukherjee as the top five journalists of India, while a list by the same media outlet adds Karan Thapar.[2][3]

- Alfred D'Cruz, the first Indian sub-editor of The Times of India, Mumbai in 1947, when Britishers Sir Francis Low was the Editor and Claude Scott was the News Editor. Editor of The Times of India Directory & Yearbook 1984.[4] Co-author of 'Saligao: Focus on a Picturesque Goan Village'. Awarded posthumously the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Journalist Association of India in 2012[5] and the Laxmidas Borkar Memorial Award in 2013.[6]
- V. K. Hamzah Abbas,[7] an editor of the award-winning, Malayalam-language newspaper Madhyamam Daily He took bold step of printing malyalam langguage newsdaily "GULF MADHYAMAM" from GCC countries and truly made its parent body "MADHYAMAM" first truly Indian international news paper printed from six countries.Gulf madhyamam is now truly a market leader in every region its print under able leadership of Mr V K Hamzah Abbas.A genuine visionery and leader who leads from front.
- M. J. Akbar, Mobashar Jawed Akbar, (11 January 1951– ) an English-language journalist and editor-in-chief for the The Sunday Guardian and Deccan Chronicle (Hyderabad)
- Javed Anand, (ca. 1950– ) an alternative journalist, co-founder of Sabrang Communications, and co-editor of Communalism Combat, who is married to journalist Teesta Setalvad. The couple shared the Maharana Mewar Foundation's Hakim Khan Sur Award in 1999.[8]
- Arijit Chakrabarty,(1 October 1987– ) noted journalist for the Anandabazar Patrika(Kolkata)

- Dakshinaranjan Basu, a journalist from Kolkata (The namesake of the Dakshinaranjan Basu Memorial Award)[9]
- Shireen Bhan, an executive editor who was named as a 2009 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader[2][3][10]
- Anubha Bhonsle, a television and print journalist, a winner of the Ramnath Goenka Award for Best Political Reporter, 2012 and the Chameli Devi Award for Woman Media Person of the Year, 2014.[11]
- Praful Bidwai (ca 1949–2015), a journalist and activist against nuclear armaments, a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,[12] who along with Achin Vanaik won the 2000 Sean McBride Peace Prize.

- Vikram Chandra (NDTV) (7 January 1967– ), a journalist, anchor, and group CEO at NDTV, and his mother is former journalist Nandini Chandra[2]
- Devyani Chaubal (1942–1995), Indian film journalist and columnist of 60s and 70s.[13]
- Amitabha Chowdhury, winner of the 1961 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism[14]
- Shoma Chaudhury, managing editor of the Indian daily Tehelka. She has won Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards for print journalism in 2007,[15] the Chameli Devi Award in 2009,[16] and the Mumbai Press Club Award for Political Writing in 2012 on Soni Sori titled, 'The Inconvenient Truth of Soni Sori'.[17]

- Sucheta Dalal (ca 1962– ), an influential female columnist, who is the winner of the civilian award Padma Shri in 2006[18]
- Swapan Dasgupta (3 September 1955– ), a senior editor at multiple major newspapers in India and TV personality
- Jyotirmoy Dey, an investigative journalist who was murdered 11 June 2011[19][20] and posthumously awarded the Prem Bhatia Award in 2011 for political reporter of the year, which he shared with Josy Joseph (see below)[21]
- Bahar Dutt, an environmental and wildlife journalist and editor for CNN-IBN Live and winner of multiple awards, including the 2006 Ramnath Goenka Award for excellence in environmental reporting,[22] as well as sister of Barkha Dutt
- Barkha Dutt of NDTV, one of India's most well-known female journalists[2][3] and a past recipient of the C H Mohammed Koya National Journalism Award,[23] as well as sister of Bahar Dutt and daughter of early female Indian journalist Prabha Dutt
- David Devadas, a well-known Indian author, journalist, commentator and documentary film-maker. He is the author of In Search of a Future: The story of Kashmir, a critically acclaimed book on Kashmir Conflict.

- Gour Kishore Ghosh,[24] winner of the 1981 Ramon Magsaysay Award for Journalism, Literature, and Creative Communication Arts
- Santosh Kumar Ghosh, an award-winning Bengali journalist and editor of Anandabazar Patrika (The namesake of the "Santosh Kumar Ghosh Memorial Award")[9]
- Ramnath Goenka[7][25] Founder of India Express Group and publisher of the English-language The Indian Express, Hindi-language Jansatta, and Marathi-language Loksatta
- J. Gopikrishnan (10 April 1971– ), cartoonist
- Arnab Goswami, Times Now, winner of the Ramnath Goenka Award for Excellence in Journalism for the year 2010 in the category of TV journalism.[26][27]

- K. M. Mathew (2 January 1917 – 1 August 2010), known as the chief editor of Malayala Manorama, which has the largest circulation of any Malayalam-language newspaper, and husband of Annamma Mathew

Vinod Kumar Menon, City Editor, MiDDAY is a recipient of numerous awards of excellence in journalism, REDINK Press club award in 2015 for a series of in depth investigative stories on the dangerous drug meow meow. It led the central government to ban it under the NDPS Act. REDINK Press club award in 2014 for two in-depth investigative stories in two different categories, viz: - Incident of rape at Bhandara under the Crime and Investigation category, & - Malnutrition death in Dolara village, 100 km from Mumbai, under the Health category. REDINK Press club award in 2013 for in-depth research-based story on drought in Dolara village, 100 km from Mumbai. Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award in 2012 under the Environment category, for in depth story on drought published in year 2014. His discovery of a 200-year-old secret tunnel under General Post Office (GPO), Mumbai in the October 2010 got much deserved attention in the media. It also opened up a new avenue of research for historians and archeologists on Mumbai. His numerous investigative pieces to his credit - exposes and eye-openers that have been cited as evidence in the Court of law during trials.
