Portions of most roads passing through elevations of about 7,000 feet (2,100 m) are usually closed during winter, with opening and closure dates varying based on snowfall and available road clearing and repair resources. However, the California Department of Transportation attempts to keep I-80, US 50 and CA 88 open year-round.
