List of current champions in WWE

WWE is a professional wrestling promotion based in Stamford, Connecticut. Title reigns are either determined by professional wrestling matches or are awarded to a wrestler, as a result of the culmination of various scripted storylines. There are three active singles championships for male wrestlers, one active tag team championship, and one active championship for female wrestlers. Seven wrestlers hold the championships. The list includes the number of times the wrestler has held the title, the date and location of the win, and a description of the winning bout. The following is correct as of May 7, 2016.

Current championships

At the top of WWE's championship hierarchy is the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The current champion is Roman Reigns, who is in his third reign. He won the title by defeating Triple H at WrestleMania 32.

There are two secondary titles in WWE, the WWE Intercontinental Championship and the WWE United States Championship. The Intercontinental Championship is currently held by The Miz, who is in his fifth reign. He won the title by defeating Zack Ryder on the April 4, 2016, edition of Raw. The United States Championship is currently held by Kalisto, who is in his second reign. He won it by defeating Alberto Del Rio on January 24, 2016, at the Royal Rumble.

The WWE Tag Team Championship is held by The New Day (Big E, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), who are in second reign as a team (record-tying fourth for Kingston and second for Woods and Big E individually). They won the championships after Big E and Kingston defeated Los Matadores, The Lucha Dragons and previous champions The Prime Time Players in a Fatal 4-Way tag team match at SummerSlam, with Woods also defending via the Freebird Rule.

A wrestler who has held all four of these titles is recognized to have won the WWE Grand Slam.[1]

There is one championship available for female wrestlers, the WWE Women's Championship. On April 3, 2016, during the pre–show of WrestleMania 32, WWE Hall of Famer Lita unveiled the brand-new title, with this retiring the WWE Divas Championship. In the process, the new champion would be crowned after the triple threat match between Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and the Divas Champion Charlotte, where Charlotte won.[2]
