Shakib Al Hasan is Bangladesh's leading wicket taker in international cricket.

In cricket, a five-wicket haul (also known as a "five–for" or "fifer")[1] refers to a bowler taking five or more wickets in a single innings. This is regarded as a notable achievement,[2] and as of December 2015 only 44 players have taken 15 or more five-wicket hauls at international level in their cricketing careers.[3] Shakib Al Hasan, a slow left-arm orthodox spinner, represents the Bangladesh national cricket team.[4] With 15 five-wicket hauls across all formats of international cricket, he ranks equal 40th in the all-time list, and first among his countrymen.[lower-alpha 1] He has been described as "Bangladesh's greatest-ever cricketer",[6][7] and is ranked as the top all-rounder in One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket as of January 2016.[8]

Shakib's first five-wicket haul came against New Zealand during the first Test of the 2008–09 home series; he took seven wickets for 36 runs in New Zealand's first innings. As of November 2015, these remain his best bowling figures in Test cricket. He ended the year with three more five-wicket hauls, which came in consecutive innings against South Africa and Sri Lanka.[9] The only instance where he took ten wickets in a match was when he took a pair of five-wicket hauls against Zimbabwe in November 2014. In Test cricket, he has taken five-wicket hauls against all Test-playing nations except Australia. Three of his fourteen five-wicket hauls in Tests have come against Zimbabwe.[10]

Shakib made his ODI debut in 2007, a year before his first Test appearance. His only five-wicket haul in the format came against Zimbabwe in November 2015.[11] He took five wickets for 47 runs in the match, which his team won by 145 runs. As of November 2015, Shakib has played 38 T20I matches, and is yet to claim a five-wicket haul. His figures of four wickets for 21 runs against Zimbabwe in 2013 remain his best in the format.[4]
