List of social nudity places in Africa

This is a list of social nudity places in Africa. The list includes nude beaches and naturist resorts, where people practise skinny dipping, naked bodysurfing or any other form of nude recreation.^[1][2]

South Africa

Beaches and other natural areas

There are no beaches in South Africa where the right to bathe nude is protected. However, Sandy Bay and the Umhlanga Lagoon and Mpenjati beach are beaches where nudity is accepted and bathers are very unlikely to be prosecuted for simply being naked. Mpenjati beach has been approved as a naturist beach by the local town council in charge of the area.^[5][6][7] The situation at the other beaches is less certain. Nudist beaches are by nature remote and secluded and it is unfortunate that in South Africa this makes them unsafe as criminals find them ideal for their purposes too. Nudists are advised to try to keep in big groups, singles and couples should exercise a great deal of caution if visiting the lesser known nudist beaches.

Eastern Cape

• Secrets Beach ^{[lower-alpha 1]} in Port Elizabeth
• Lighthouse Beach, Great Fish River ^{[lower-alpha 2]} between Port Alfred and East London
• The Striptease River Trail^{[lower-alpha 3]} at the Tsitsikamma Lodge and Spa. The trail is nudist friendly; the hotel, however, is a textile hotel.^[8]

KwaZulu-Natal

• Umhlanga lagoon ^{[lower-alpha 4]} north of Durban, is an unofficial nude beach.

• Mpenjati Nature Reserve ^{[lower-alpha 5]} near Trafalgar and 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) north of Port Edward is a beautiful wild-life reserve^[9] administered by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, which has a popular nudist beach. Application was made to the Hibiscus Coast Local Municipality to approve its use as an official nudist beach.^{[10][11][12][13][14][15]} On 28 October 2014, at their October 2014 monthly council meeting the Hibiscus Coast Local Municipality approved beach as an official naturist beach.^[5] The nudist section of the beach is about 200 metres (220 yd) north of the Mpenjati River mouth, and is clearly signposted.^[16]

Western Cape

• Sandy Bay ^{[lower-alpha 6]} in Cape Town is most well known nude beach in South Africa.

Resorts

Eastern Cape

• Buttnothing ^{[lower-alpha 7]} is a suburban B&B in Port Elizabeth.

Gauteng

• Sun Eden ^{[lower-alpha 8]} is near Pretoria.

KwaZulu-Natal

• Hooting Owl ^{[lower-alpha 9]} is a B&B south of Margate about 1 km from the Indian Ocean coast.

North West Province

• Harmony Nature Farm ^{[lower-alpha 10]} is nestled on the cliffs of the Magaliesburg mountains
• Kiepersolkloof ^{[lower-alpha 11]} is a private nature reserve near Rustenburg
• Voëlkop at the Wayback Machine (archived July 20, 2013) ^{[lower-alpha 12]} is a men-only gay nude resort in Makolokwe between Pretoria and Rustenburg.
• Vyedam Naturist Resort ^{[lower-alpha 13]} is in the Hekpoort valley surrounded by the Magaliesburg and Wittewater mountains.

Western Cape
