In 1994, Joseph Agu, founder and president of Rhythms Exotic Afro Percussions, LLC, established the company to promote culturally responsible contents, products, services and educational programs to schools, community centers, corporate industry to fundamentally educate and transcend the boundaries of culture, language and geography.

Born and raised in Enugu, Enugu State, Nigeria. He is a member of the Igbo ethnic group of Eastern Nigeria and an experienced ethnomusicologist of Afro centric music and musical instruments.

Arriving in the Unites States 1976, his formal education in business and the hands-on study of engineering sciences helped him merge his love of ethnic culture and music with manufacturing business and education. Specializing in ceramic ‘Udu’ drums which originated from the tribal traditions of the Igbo ethnic group. Mr. Agu is a highly regarded music and fabrication expert and sought after speaker on issues of music and musical instruments and culture for both the industry and educational institutions.

He has worked with Smithsonian Institute National Museum Of African Art, and featured in San Jose Mercury News , Phily News , Modern Drummer Magazine , Rhythm Magazine , Drum Magazine And Santa Clara Weekly. His drums have been played professionally by musicians on many national television programs, such as Emeril Live, Jay Leno, Leslie Mandoki - Germany, Carlinhos Brown of Brazil, CG Ryche, , in Maria Cary

Band and more. With a desire to provide cultural understanding and world music traditions through hand percussion and educational programs, Mr. Agu launched The Percussive Academy Academy in 2009.

The Percussion Academy provides world music programs to educational institutions from middle school and high schools to the professional level. With a focus on technical fundamentals and customized music instruction, workshop, ensemble performances, Ceramic workshops and private lessons, students improve their percussion skills and develop a musical style. Students learn to play rhythms using ethnically diverse

percussive instruments including Congas, Udu Drums, Djembe, Cajon and more. Mr. Agu holds several Patents for instruments Designs.
