LiveAction, Inc. (formerly known as ActionPacked! Networks) is a network monitoring software company based in Palo Alto, CA. The company produces software that analyzes the performance of local and wide area networks. LiveAction is privately held and backed by venture investors including Insight Venture Partners, Accelerate IT Ventures (AITV), Cisco Investments and Enerdigm Ventures.

Technology

LiveAction software combines a patented graphical interface with an intelligent device knowledgebase that eliminates the need to use the Cisco command line interface (CLI) for complex NetFlow and QoS operations. LiveAction™ software was originally developed for the U.S. Marine Corps to simplify Quality of Service configuration and to reduce manpower required to manage mobile tactical networks. Today, the software is fully commercialized and enables engineers to perform advanced Cisco network design, deployment, troubleshooting, and device management without extensive training.[1] The software platform combines detailed network topology, device, and flow visualizations with direct interactive monitoring and configuration of Quality of Service, NetFlow, LAN, Routing, IP SLA, Medianet, and AVC features embedded inside Cisco Systems devices.[2] LiveAction provides QoS management with an integrated display providing centralized access to devices and policies. The performance of traffic supported by each device can be assessed using live traffic displays, such as that provided directly from router interfaces.[3]

History

The company was founded in 2007 as a Referentia Systems, Inc. company by John Smith who had worked on the LiveAction project for Referentia.[7] LiveAction (then ActionPacked Networks) received a $500K seed investment in 2013 by Enerdigm Ventures.[8] In 2014, LiveAction completed a $5.35 million Series A round of financing. AITV led the investment round with participation from Cisco Investments and Enerdigm Ventures.[9] In 2016, LiveAction completed a $36 million Series B round of financing led by Insight Venture Partners. Accelerate-IT Ventures and Cisco Investments also participated in the funding round.[10]

Recognition

Channel Reseller News (CRN) recognized LiveAction (then ActionPacked Networks) in 2012 as a communications infrastructure product to keep an eye on. In 2013 LiveAction (then ActionPacked Networks) became the first Cisco management partner to support the MSI’s REST-based management interface (v3.1).[11]
