Lochinvar railway station is located on the Main Northern line in New South Wales, Australia. It serves the nearby town of Lochinvar opening on 2 July 1860.[1]
It briefly served as the terminus of the Great Northern Railway when it was extended from Maitland. In March 1862 Lochinvar ceased to be a terminus when the line was extended to Greta.
Originally, there was only one platform, but a second was added in 1914 when the line was duplicated. As part of the Australian Rail Track Corporation's project to install a third track between Maitland and Whittingham, the station received a footbridge in 2012.[2][3]
Platforms & services
Lochinvar has two side platforms. It is serviced by NSW TrainLink Hunter Line services travelling between Hamilton (Newcastle), Muswellbrook and Scone.[4]
Station Revamp
In 2012, NSW TrainLink gave Lochinvar Train Station a big renovation, as the two platforms were extended, and a freight line was made outside the station. A footbridge was also put in, which was a wheel chair accessible footbridge. Alongside with that comes a brand new car park, bigger than the old one, and a new lit-up station sign, saying Lochinvar, then it has the CityRail logo.
2005 Death at Lochinvar
In 2005, the hard working '9012' and '9025', owned by Pacific National, are freight loco's, used for hauling coal cars through the Hunter Valley. They both were coupled, hauling empty coal cars back up into the Hunter Valley. An elderly commuter was on the platform, waiting for her train to Muswellbrook. '9025' and '9012' were approaching the platform the commuter was on. She was standing over the yellow line. When the freight train rumbled through, she fell over as the loco was right next to her. She was taken to John Hunter Hospital, where she died due to a heart attack.
