Lookout Mountain, elevation 6,536 feet (1,992 m),[1] lying almost due east of Mount Hood and south of the Columbia River Gorge, is the second highest peak in the Mount Hood National Forest in the U.S. state of Oregon.[3] Lookout Mountain, which is the highest point in the Mount Hood Wilderness[2] offers hiking, bicycling and riding trails, and camping.[4]
From its summit and in good visibility, one may see (from approximately west and moving clockwise) Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, Broken Top, South Sister, North Sister, Mount Washington, and Mount Jefferson (Oregon) with the unassisted eye.
In 1911 a Forest Service lookout was built on the summit and was replaced by an L-4 tower in 1940. The site was abandoned in 1966 and the structure was latter removed.[5]
