"Love, Day After Tomorrow" is the debut single by Japanese singer Mai Kuraki for her first studio album, "Delicious Way" (2000). It was written by Kuraki, Aika Ohno and Cybersound, and produced by KANONJI. The song was released as the album's lead single on December 8, 1999.
Critical reception
CD Journal gave the song a positive review saying her falsetto voice is harmonizing with its excellent melody. But on the other side, they compared Kuraki's debut with Hikaru Utada's one.[1]
Chart performance
In Japan, "Love, Day After Tomorrow" entered the Japan Oricon Weekly Singles chart at number 18, selling 29,510 copies in its first week. It peaked at number 2 right after Southern All Stars's best-selling single "Tsunami". This single also turned out to be 4th best selling single of Japan Oricon chart in 1999.
On September 21, 2009, this song entered Japan Hot 100 at No. 63[2] after the release of her compilation album, "All My Best", which sold over 250,000 copies and became 25th best selling album of Japan Oricon chart in the year.
In the US, this single was pre-ordered more than 5,000 copies.[3]
Music video
When this song was released, there was no plan to make a music video. But due to its big hit, the music video was filmed in haste.
The music video features Kuraki herself in black and white movie. It shows she singing the song sitting on the chair in a white room and this scene is compared with the music was directed by Masashi Ohishi and compared with the music video of Hikaru Utada's hit song "Automatic" sometimes.
This video was included on Kuraki's first DVD "First Cut". This DVD was released on November 8, 2000.
On September 12, 2014, celebrating the release of Kuraki's 3rd compilation album "Mai Kuraki Best 151A: Love & Hope", she uploaded new version of this music video on YouTube as "Love, Day After Tomorrow feat. 15 young directors". It was directed by 15 directors. Subsequently, on September 21, 2014, short version of the original music video was uploaded on YouTube. These two music videos were watched more than 1,000,000 times in total.
Live performance
In 2005, she performed this song for the first time on TV in Kōhaku Uta Gassen which is the biggest music TV program in Japan. It was her 3rd performance on TV.

In 2002, Aika Ohno, the writer of this song covered it in her first album "Shadows of Dreams" in English.
