Motorsports Business Management, operating as MBM Motorsports, is a NASCAR Xfinity Series team. The team currently fields the No. 13 and 40 cars for various drivers, including owner Carl Long. Former co-owner Derek White was arrested in 2016 on smuggling charges. Full ownership of the team has since been taken by Long and his family.

History

Car No. 13 history

No. 13 car, driven by Tim Cowen at Road America in 2015

Before the 2014 Drive to Stop Diabetes 300 at Bristol Motor Speedway, Derek White and Carl Long created Motorsports Business Management,[1] fielding the No. 13 car for Matt Carter;[2] Carter finished 37th.[3] Later in the year, MBM fielded rides in six races for White, Long and Mike Wallace, failing to qualify for four and not finishing any races.[4][5][6]

In 2015, the car was run with various drivers. Brad Teague made his final NASCAR start at the Food City 300, finishing 26th.[7]

On March 30, 2016, White turned himself in for his involvement in a tobacco smuggling ring. The circle, targeted by Sûreté du Québec's MYGALE project, began in 2014 and had smuggled at least 158 transports to Canada, including 2,294 tons of tobacco worth $530 million.[8] The tobacco was then sold to Native Americans in the country,[9] with the profit being used to purchase drugs like cocaine and for money laundering in foreign countries.[8]

Car No. 40 history

In 2015, White and Long were joined by team owners Rick Ware and Curtis Key as partners,[10] and the team expanded to two cars with the No. 40,[2] which was driven by Derek White at Daytona International Speedway.[10] This team was fielded as a start and park team to help fund the team's No. 13 car.
