MSG Varsity is an online high school sports programming service focused on the New York metropolitan area, which covers schools from Connecticut, New Jersey, Westchester County, New York and the Hudson Valley, Long Island and New York City. The network consists of a web site (MSGVarsity.com), interactive TV channel and a mobile app.[1] Owned and operated by Cablevision, the network is advertised as "Only on Optimum" and is only available to Cablevision video and internet subscribers. MSG Varsity was also a high school sports television network until 2013. As a result of layoffs announced in July 2013, the network switched to an online service, complemented by an interactive video channel on September 1, 2013.

The network currently produces a schedule of over 400 live high school sports events per year, as well as weekly and daily shows focused on sports such as football, soccer, basketball, wrestling, ice hockey, baseball and lacrosse.[2][3] MSG Varsity is currently the primary broadcast partner of the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association,[4] as well as the exclusive broadcast partner of the New York Catholic High School Athletic Association. The network also broadcasts regular season and playoff games in Nassau County, Suffolk County and Westchester County. The network has won numerous awards, including the 2014 and 2015 Eppy Awards for Best Sports Web Site Under 1 Million Unique Visits, distributed by Editor & Publisher magazine.[5]

Prior to switching to an all-digital network, MSG Varsity produced an original high school quiz show, The Challenge.[6] The program was hosted by American Idol contestant Jared Cotter and features high school students from across the Tri-State area who competed for scholarship prizes.
