MTV Africa[1] (formerly MTV South Africa) is a 24-hour general entertainment channel from Viacom International Media Networks Africa. The channel focuses mainly on rebroadcasting MTV US content whereas MTV Base Africa focuses on local and international music with a strong focus on long-form television formats.

History

On July 3, 2013 the pan-African feed of MTV Base was broken into two feeds; MTV Base (Africa) and MTV South Africa. MTV South Africa[2] was a localized opt-out feed MTV Base exclusively for South African viewers. However, VIMN Africa decided in late 2015 to rebrnad MTV South Africa to MTV Africa now hosting a different schedule to MTV Base.

Availability

MTV Africa is available in key territories including South Africa, Nigeria, West Africa and Kenya. The service is available in South Africa through DStv.
