Mahi is a Jat gotra or clan found in both Punjab, Pakistan and in Punjab, India.
Distribution
The place of origin of the Mahi is supposed to have been Amritsar, Punjab, India and Multan, Pakistan. According to the census of 1911 their number was about 7000. In Firozpur district the Mahi population is 1,740. According to 1911 census, there were 498 Muslim Mahis in Multan District.
