Mariya Zakharchenko (born February 16, 1995, Kyiv) — Ukrainian Go player; member of numerous international amateur competitions (1st WMSG - 2008, European Pair Go Championcships - 2008 etc.); Korean school student professional baduk (2008); the first professional player of Ukraine (2012).

Go career

Mariya Zakharchenko interested in Go since 2005 when she was 9 years old. In 2005 she began to study this game in the section for juniors of Kyiv. Her Go coach was Yuri Plusch (5 dan). During a few years Mariya also participated in numerous Ukrainian, European and international amateur competitions.

In 2008 Mariya Zakharchenko was 4 Dan and, invited by Mr Poong Jho Chun (9P), to study at the South Korean professional school of Go (Baduk).

Maria Zakharchenko — working day

While studying in South Korea, Mariya has made significant and important progress.[1] In 2008, she won official status of Korean Incey (5th grade school, women), meaning "professional school student Go" of Korean Association of Baduk. In 2009, Mariya confirmed her level of skills in the qualifying competitions and started to study fourth and soon, became third class.[2] In 2011, Mariya was among the 12 best women - players[3] (level of 7Dan amateur) of the South Korea - the country with the most players of planet.

2012, Mariya reached first class and received a diploma. She is now a professional player (1 Dan Pro).[4]
