Matt Prior (born 27 May 1987) is an Australian professional Rugby League footballer for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks of the NRL. He plays primarily in the forwards, he previously played for the St George Illawarra Dragons with whom he won the 2010 NRL Premiership with His position of choice is at Second Row but his versatility also allows him to play at Prop and on certain occasions has filled in at Centre.
Playing career
Prior started at the Dragons in 2006, making his NRL debut in round 5 of the 2008 season. On 22 March 2010 Prior signed for the Dragons for a further three years which will see him at the St. George Illawarra Dragons until the end of 2013.[1]
He was part of the victorious Dragons team which won the 2010 NRL Grand Final.
On 13 January 2011, Prior was named in the "Blues in waiting" squad. A three day camp at Homebush from 21–23 January that will be coordinated by coach Ricky Stuart for players who he believes have potential to feature in future New South Wales Origin teams.[2]
In Round 9, 2012 he was sent off for striking Cowboys captain Johnathan Thurston with his elbow, with his charge referred directly to the judiciary.[3] He was suspended for five weeks over the incident.[4] After the incident Prior was moved to the interchange bench for the St. George Illawara Dragons.
Personal life
Prior was born in Wollongong in New South Wales and went to school at Bulli High School.
