Mauritius is a multiethnic society. The ancestors of the Mauritian population are mainly of Indian, African, French and Chinese origin.

The Mauritian diaspora consists of Mauritian emigrants and their descendants in various countries around the world, mainly Great Britain, France, Australia and Canada.
