Medical University of the Americas – Nevis (MUA) is a private, for-profit medical school located in Whitehall, Nevis in the West Indies. MUA confers upon its graduates the Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree.[1] The university is owned by R3 Education, Inc.[2] A typical incoming basic science class at MUA is about 80-90 students.[3] The 10-acre campus is located on what was historically a sugar plantation.[4]
Curriculum
The MD program at MUA is a 10 semester course of study that consists of three semesters per calendar year. Semesters 1-5 are basic sciences semesters that are completed at the university's Nevis campus. During Semester 5, MUA students accompany faculty on rounds at the Alexandria Hospital in Charlestown, Nevis.[5] Semesters 6-10 consist of 72 weeks of clinical training at hospitals in the United States.[6]
MUA also offers a one year, two-semester pre-medical program for students who need to meet additional course requirements to be considered for the M.D. program.[7]
Accreditation
MUA is accredited by the government of St. Kitts & Nevis Accreditation Board.[8]
MUA is listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory (IMED)[1] and in the AVICENNA Directory for medicine.[9]
MUA is approved by the New York State Education Department for clinical training, residency, and licensure in New York.[10]
MUA is accredited by the Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine.[11]
MUA has received a comparability determination from the National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA)[12]
MUA has received approval by The Commission for Independent Education, and Florida Department of Education for licensure. [13]
